Way back when, many 'circuits' were designed for a 'Bias' in tube designs. I recently found this though, where at one stage, they used what looked like a "Button Battery" for the Bias??? (Here's a schematic pic showing one...

And here's a pic of one in 'circuit'...

Below, are pics of a 'Mallory' 1 volt battery, for such use, and an 'Ad' for one!!!...

It 'seems' that they were discontinued due to spring-loaded connection problems ??, however, I thought that they were quite interesting being the FIRST type of "Button Batteries" I have ever seen!! I've 'never' seen the likes of this in any old Radios though??
SORRY!!! I don;t know how to set image links here properly!!!!

Fascinating - never knew of those.
And don't worry about the links, what you've done is fine. This forum is a bit lacking when it comes to attachments.

To 'Robbbert', (and to 'GTC'), thanks for your replies! It's funny that after I first posted this, I could not see the image links as clickable 'Hypertext', but now I CAN see them? Is there a way to place the actual images in line with the text??? And is there such a thing here to select an acknowledgement of what is said, and/or reply to individual posts??
Yea... Regarding my Post, I've never seen one like this in real life!!! Thanks.

That's because they are made clickable by a background process that seems to run at some random time, and which does not always catch every instance, in my experience.
And is there such a thing here to select an acknowledgement of what is said, and/or reply to individual posts??
There is no reply function. This bespoke forum was created years ago by the owner and it has some shortcomings and quirks. As the saying goes it is what it is, and ever will be unless it is completely rewritten (owner is waiting for a Lotto win to pay for that.)
The closest to replying is to copy and paste and then use BBcode tags around the pasted bits, as I have done above.
There was talk years ago of an image upload facility but that did not eventuate. Using imgur to host images is about the best idea.

That's because you email the photos to Brad, and he adds them in. The forum is therefore capable, but only admins can make use of it.

There is an image upload facility here but it has not been operational for more than about 14 years. In the early days it was here and worked well, however later in the piece a browser vulnerability affecting Internet Explorer (soon after patched by Mocrosoft) meant that a virus disguised as a JPG image could be uploaded and then executed on the web server simply by following a link to the 'image' which was really a text file with some hostile JavaScript in it.
I then decided that given there was no error handling in the upload function and that modifying the code in any way meant that it simply would not work, it was just as easy to offer to upload images rather than tussle with the original system.
The upload function (and one or two other ideas I have been pondering on) will return but only after the forums portion of the site gets a re-code in ASP.NET. There are ways in ASP.NET to verify that an image file is really a picture and not a virus. Sadly, that doesn't exist in Classic ASP, as it is now an ancient scripting language.
At this point in time, there is no timetable for the completion of this work.

Dear BRAD. That's interesting, and thank you for your time, to explain it to me!!
I hadn't heard about that 'fake' .jpg script dilemma before. (I must look into it out of interest!).
What about members converting images to .png, or using .gif's etc???
I'm not complaining at all, Brad, and it's obvious that you have done a LOT of work to set up & maintain this Forum! That sort of work shows to all how committed you are, in your & everyone else's interest in this vintage technology topic, and I truly thank you mate. I'm new here, but I look forward to hopefully contribute regarding various Q & A, as well as some interesting findings!!

GIF isn't suitable for photos as they only support 265 colours. PNG could be an option but at the end of the day the vulnerability was patched shortly after it was discovered and that was a long time ago. Most digital cameras output to JPG format so I just keep them at that for simplicity.
Don't worry about the questions or the need to ask any more, we get lots of different ones from different people about a wide range of subjects.
Back in the day when this site was built, the first two years were forum-free but in 2005 a fairly rudimentary forum system was introduced. There were only two forums back then and it didn't take off for a number of reasons, including but not limited to a lack of web traffic. An extra forum was added about six months down the track and the site was relaunched and success soon followed. It pays to advertise and also call in favours from mates who said to other mates, "oh, by the way, there is a vintage radio website that lets people talk!"
Around 18 years later, here we are. I have a job that occasionally has irregular hours now and it has taken me away from here a lot. Over time, lots of extra features have been added but the backbone code has pretty much reached its limit now. In recent years I have also tried shifting the site to a commercial webhost and they were fine for the first year or so but then they decided to do a server migration, which included shifting their customers' sites from a Perth data centre to one in Sydney. They screwed it and corrupted my database for good measure.
I've taken hosting back in house, rebuilt the database and got things going again. There is a seemingly undiscoverable coding bug that sometimes makes members receive a 500 HTTP Error but there are a few jobs coming up that will hopefully put an end to that and these including recoding the main default page from scratch and installing the site on a brand new server with a fresh operating system install.
