Some minor changes have been made to the forums as of today. Before Christmas I drafted a new set of guidelines for the posting of images on the forums but didn't go ahead with publication as other things got in the road. With some time to spare today I have finalised this and it goes live today.
As of today any photos that do not meet some very basic requirements will not be uploaded to the site. These include:-
Images which are less than 800px wide. If you are taking photos with a mobile phone or older camera you will need to adjust the device's settings so that images captured are at least 800px wide. There is no restriction on height. Many members send images that are over 5000px wide - this is fine as my mail server will accept very large e-mails. As long as the images are 800px or wider, it's all good.
Images which are dark or blurry will also be rejected as of today. I simply do not see the benefit of having such images on the site and I've spent a few years now asking nicely and dropping discrete hints. This is because I don't want to appear overbearing but I do feel I am being ignored by a few, though to be fair, newer members may not have noticed these requests. I am putting the request on the record today however.
Please read Point 6 below, just above the 'Post' button, for the link to the new image posting guidelines which explain things in greater detail.
One other thing I've asked for in the past is that members proof-read their comments before posting and correct any mistakes made with regard to spelling and punctuation. As of tonight there is a permanent reminder of this request just above the 'Post' button on the thread display pages. This will make itself visible on other pages that permit posting comments before the end of the week.
Additionally I have added some code to the back end of the site to correct many common spelling errors and to add capitalisation where a few seem just too lazy to do this for themselves. I'd like to make it understood that I am targeting this laziness rather than someone just making an honest mistake, which we are all prone too at some stage or other. Those resorting to the modern but very untidy looking all-lower-case posts are consuming my time as I run around editing them.
Again, this may appear overbearing though I will put on record that some of the other vintage radio forums require members to make an effort and have codified this in their site's rules. I want this site to look professional and for the content to appear credible and easy to read. So I ask again - please pay closer attention to how your posts are received by others.
On an unrelated note, I think it is safe to say that unreliability experienced with access to the site in the latter portion of 2015 is resolved. This came as a result of a few hours on the phone with TPG over Christmas and a few changes were made at both ends of the connection which appear to have helped markedly. The uptime for the connection equipment now stands at 23 days which is an excellent result.

Thanks Brad.
Can those back-end changes also get rid of unnecessary capitalisation of sentences in posts, otherwise known as shouting?

Yes, indeed. I'll have to work on that next time I am 'on' the server.
