Hello everyone. I'm after a little help identifying a radio I've just received , and I'm having no luck with internet searches . I've found examples using the same front panel but none in a case like this one. Any details would be appreciated.

Cheers.

It looks like a Airzone Model 457 from 1940.

Valve line up as follows: 1A7GT, 1N5GT, 1H5GT & 1Q5GT.

There is a similar post-war Model 457B with a different carrying handle that uses 7 pin miniature valves: 1R5, 1T4, 1S5 & 3V4.

For a 1940s portable... About $120.00 for something in good nick. Some do charge a lot higher though.

It is interesting that the second ad promotes this model as the perfect gift and noting the text on the label "To John". How many ladies had 25 pounds in their pockets back in 1949? The average weekly wage was £7/10/- which is about $2,000.00 in today's money (based on the value of average weekly earnings) and in most cases ladies no longer remained employed after marrying and starting a family. Those that did have notes in their purses probably had husbands that would have already owned a portable radio. Smile
