Today I received this message when connecting to this site"

"This Connection is Untrusted

You have asked Firefox to connect securely to vintage-radio.com.au, but we can't confirm that your connection is secure."

I had to allow a security exception in order to proceed.

Yeah, my fault. I allowed the certificate to expire. I will divert traffic to the standard port until the new certificate is installed.

Unfortunately the certificate provider does not issue reminders.

Okay, an order has been placed for a new SSL certificate and I should have it installed in a few days. Once this is done I will make a further announcement.

The new certificate will last for two years and the expiry date will be put in my Outlook calendar to stop this happening again.

Safari may be taking you straight to Port 80 which is the standard web port. You can confirm this by clicking on the URL in the address bar. If the prefix is HTTP rather than HTTPS then that will be the scenario.

When the new SSL certificate is installed on the web server all traffic will once again redirect to the HTTPS protocol, which is more secure. That said, there's nothing to fear about the current situation, despite the warnings from browsers. 99% of all websites do not have SSL certificates installed and data passes between the server and the visitor as raw text.

There are Search Engine Optimisation advantages for sites that offer SSL which was my main motivation for installing the feature last year but the added security is also a bonus. Smile
