I always thought Kriesler made these but released them with other brands. I've seen a few but this is the first with ivory grille bars. They are a budget radio and if you ever get a glimpse of the chassis you will see where the £ were saved. Very minimal innards indeed.

Interesting that there's nothing on the web about this brand. The most words ever written about it may be in that eBay ad.

I am reading Steve Savells book called Australian coloured radios of the 20th century . I have seen many times this brand mentioned in his books. You might find them quite informative.

Nice-looking radio. I can see what looks like a ECH35 frequency changer, and a EL33 output valve. A green ARTS&P sticker that says No.5
A perfect shiny cabinet certainly makes a difference!

Do they say who manufactured the brand?

I've just discovered that Lot 52 in Harold's upcoming radio auction is the Kriesler version of this radio. The trick here though is that there could have been more than one chassis fitted to this cabinet. There were times when the larger radio companies made cabinets for the smaller ones and they then fitted either their own chassis, one from the maker of the cabinet or one made by a third party.
Until we see a photo of the chassis in the Kriesler-badged radio it'll be hard to establish a link.

Yes, they do look remarkably similar. Note that the Radofone's dial is limited to NSW & QLD stations, with the emphasis on Sydney.

See Peter Sheridan & Ritchie Singers Radio Days book, page 108 & 109.
There is a Kriesler, Aegis, Chieftain & Relton all using the same cabinet. Note the Krieslers in the middle row - the cabinets have a flat top. The flat top Krieslers are models 3K00, 3K04 & 3K95. The rounded top Krieslers are models 3K06 & 4K06.
I think I've seen somewhere in RTV&H that this cabinet was also used in build your own kit sets.

Ok here are the details ( I was spending time looking it up and chatting with Steve ) From the horses mouth Radophone were a South Australian Badge engineered Company. Very few sets were made by them. He mentioned that they were mostly small tombstone sets in Aegis style Made 1947 to 1951. And I am guessing Kriesler as well.
Really I have to tell you as a rule I have not been reading many books at all over the last 20 years but I find Steve's books very very hard to put down. Any of you guys that live in Canberra are very welcome to contact me and come around to have a look.

Interesting then that only NSW and a mix of some QLD & VIC stations are on the dial in the eBay ad, with emphasis on Sydney stations.

Yeah well the one I see in Steves book is the same colour scheme but the dial has 4 or 5 horizontal partitions on the dial as opposed to the 3 that's on the eBay model. so there are obviously some dial variations. I will send the photo for you all to see. I have been given permission to post it.

The Radophone, as many other badge makers used aegis type cabinets, they fitted the dials to suit states they were being sold too .the case makers sold the cases en masse to whom ever wanted to produce a set.
I have seen a Radophone with a South Aussie dial, I've also seen the Radophone branded a Mastertone - which were the nickel & dime WA makers - the claytons crowd lol
Kriesler cases are similar but early models were the flat tops, such as 3k05 etc, 3k06 came in the round top not the same as the Aegis made cases ! yes similar sets in ''fang the dentists book'' , but then would he know???? I doubt it ! He should stick to root canals, as he knows zero of radio manufacturing history!
That's the story on Radophone they were just a budget set !
