Ambassador brand is listed on the HRSA “Manufacture of Radios” list.
They are listed as manufactured in 1937.

Does anyone have any idea who manufactured them?

I don't think they are British. Tariffs would have limited imports in the 30's.
Here is the HRSA link;

Gary the Ambassador brand was mostly a generic brand made for big department stores but not for a long time, I've had 2 over the years, old consoles dated 1937 and 1938 , you rarely see them.

The 2 I owned bore round dials 6 inch jobs and were standard 5 valve sets, its a brand that rarely turns up now , I've not ever seen a mantel version of one, although they may well exist.
