I bought a new Pioneer radio/CD player for the car yesterday, mainly because it has blue tooth. It isn't anywhere near being a top of the line unit but apart from the usual AM and FM bands I was amazed to find it also has two shortwave bands covering 2.3MHz -7.735MHz and 9.5MHz - 21.97MHz.

Amazing indeed. Shortwave is the sort of thing I might expect to find on a radio made for the European market.

What model number is it?

It's a DEH-X4750BT, the bands aren't continuous but cover most of the frequencies in between. I haven't had a chance to play with the SW yet as I'm still mastering the basic functions.

I poked around on the internet to look at that model number. Several sites, all mentioning features like power output, android and bluetooth, mp3, and such. Barely mentions that it could receive radio signals, and NO mention about shortwave.

NO mention about shortwave

There are mentions of shortwave on sites in the UAE and NZ:

"Shortwave Tuner Yes"

http://www.pioneer-mea.com/en/print.php?proId=761&subId=92&catId=46&m=feature

"Tuner FM/AM Shortwave Tuner (24 preset stations)"

http://abtec.co.nz/Pioneer_DEH_X4750BT

I guess other countries (including Oz) don't consider it worthy of mention due to lack of customer interest in shortwave reception in car radios.
