G'day Carl,

They have arrived safely and will be uploaded tonight. State of Origin football will (for better or worse) take precedence over all other activities, hence the short delay. The 'pictures pending' comment just lets people know that you have submitted photos for publication. Smile

A valve a day keeps the transistor away...

Yeah, that's good, isn't it. Grin

On a lighter note, this radio is a replica of the 500 series AWA Radiolette, despite the manufacturer's claim that some other radio has been 'copied'.

There's an article on replica radios linked from the sidebar and from memory this radio gets a mention.

I did something somewhat similar, an output vacuum tube in a solid state AM-FM radio, but no eye tube.

It looks like the valves are part of the design, not just powered filaments. That’s a step up from some.
I’d say the radio is behind the dial in that cage, so maybe just an audio amp.
But if so, then what are they? It seems a bit much to use a valve rectifier.

I actually did a bit of a read up about the company and the guy that started it actually wanted to reproduce a high quality radio like the ones we love. He is a great lover of the vintage valve technology and this is one of his pet projects. I think its quite commendable.
