I would like to get info on a radio I purchased from a swapmeet this weekend, it is a Reliance Skyraider.

That mains plug is a death trap. There are likely numbers on the back, on the chassis that will help the unfamiliar identify it.

I would, unless known otherwise, that it is safe (I don't think so), bother to plug it in.

What is your intent with it?

Marc

Yes, that style is called the "suicide plug" nowadays.

That band/mode switch knob looks to me to be from an electric oven, or some such.

I'll second Marc's suggestion regarding a photo of the chassis from the rear of the set.

Yes, the plug-top is not a goodun by today's standards. If the radio is to be restored then both the plug and the cord would need to be replaced, along with any faulty components inside. The stove knob is a fairly easy one to replace - the other three knobs are a fairly common type for the era (sixties I think) and boxes of similar knobs go on Ebay at times.

I cannot find a photo of this model on the Internet to compare notes.

A valve a day keeps the transistor away...

Hey are you going to restore this yourself. My tech was a service technician for reliance. If you come by canberra anytime send me a email and I would be happy to get you in contact with him. I have a reliance skyraider console which I am restoring as well. Look up reliance skyraider console 1930s-1940s in this lot of discussions.

Hey Crackatinny, I was perusing Stephen Savell's book " Radios of the Nation" Last Night and even though I could not find many pictures of Reliance Sky - Raiders and he made it quite evident that all Reliance products were of very high quality and very collectable so I am suggesting that you do a complete restoration on your "baby" as I pretty sure there may not be another in existence. In the book there is a very good listing of the models produced but very few pictures. Look Steve up. He has a current book called Consoles of the Empire which I also have in my possession and it's a very good publication. It's available on Ebay.
