We have 2 years of radio (am) left before the government makes radio obsolete . What are we to do with the radios we have then ?????

That will be a sad day indeed Alan.
Perhaps we will see the return of pirate radio.

There are plenty of circuits around that show how to make small AM transmitters. I will be having a go at one in the not too distant future and if it works I will publish the setup procedure.

From what I have seen a small transmitter with variable tuning, using two or three valves or a transistorised version that coupld be crystal-locked to around 1MHz would be the go though with the latter you'd need to make sure there aren't any broadcasts on or close to 1MHz in your local area.

Personally, I don't believe that AM (and indeed FM) will disappear within two years. Look at the amount of time it has taken to launch digital television and the Commonwealth Government has increased the transition period at least twice.

A valve a day keeps the transistor away...
