Yep the smaller of the 3 transformers is a Trimax which is used to balance the microphone input and also drop it from high impedance to low. The power and output transformers would have been made by Bland but are unmarked.

Yes, that is the transformer I was trying to describe.

Line transformers can be as small as the speaker transformer & choke on a domestic set. The ones on the 100V lines on the units that tend to use valves like 6CM5 with 300VDC on the plates tend to use rather large heavy transformers that are sometimes bigger than their power transformer.

Philips built an 20 watt monitor amp, the transformers were huge.
But the frequency response was flat 20Hz to 20kHz and relatively low
distortion.

I would not immediately panic The ordinary Telstra internet (& everything else) here out of Wangaratta Vic. Has been intermittent for several weeks & many neighbours have contacted me.

They have put up a few NBN towers up around here (not connected) so I will assume they are sweating on the NBN to solve their problems. I already have a letter admitting that the system here is suffering congestion and they intend to do nothing. A copy was sent to the local Federal MP

Internet speed is another issue. Some are blaming the introduction of Netflix for recent congestion and there may be something in that, especially during the present school holiday period.

iiNet customers have been affected by this. Okay, it's a legal service, though I don't understand why people need more TV channels. Netflix, along with Presto and Stan, will bring the Net to its knees if some careful planning for the future isn't done by the government and ISPs.

Yep, we sure have!

These days I don't expect iiNet to do any planning. Witness their total shutdown during summer because it got hot in Perth. Also, it's currently subject to a takeover bid by TPG (God/ACCC forbid that should succeed.)

iiNet has steadily gone downhill since its founder sold it.

I've actually found TPG okay over the last five or six years. They supply the connection for this site and it's been one of the better parts of the system. I'd agree that they once had a reputation they deserved but in recent years things have been better. Their weak link is their support line - with staff not exactly fluent in English. I doubt that will change as pricing would need to increase a lot to improve in that area.

I'll be interested to see how TPG handles the takeover since iiNet is a conglomerate of six or seven regional ISPs. They may well leave branding as is for the time being.

I had the same problems with Optus & my internet is via my mobile which I use as a Wi-Fi hot spot & I couldn't get on for around an hour because I kept getting booted off after a few mins.

It's no lay down misere that the ACCC will approve the takeover and I hope it doesn't for the sake of competition. I have to admit that iiNet support has been pretty good the times that I've needed to use it. I had an atrocious experience with TPG many years ago and couldn't get away from it fast enough.
