I’ve got a 30 year old working arcade board that has corrosion in one corner affecting 3 chips.
Though the board still works, the boys have put me onto ultrasonic cleaning.

Since the paper electrolytic and wax caps go in the bin anyway,
I don’t see why you couldn’t continue to remove all transformers including IF coils and using
an ultrasonic transmitter to clean your supersonic heterodyne.

There’s a Silicon Chip kit recent enough to still be stocked at Jaycar for $200 I want to try.

In the SC article alluded to, the author did use ultrasonics to clean the speaker cloth.

Ok I get you.. I’m not a regular subscriber, I just buy it if I see something interesting,
and it’s usually a late copy half price at Jaycar.

You wouldn’t wash a power transformer a second time, so that says enough to me.

People reading online has reduced printed media, but that only involves a technology change. What will kill any magazine is not having content that people want. If you take out the Vintage Radio section, you have to have good reasons when it is likely that subscriptions will be lost.

No magazine can afford to get subscribers offside, as they will vote with their feet.
