Picked up this gem today. Brand is 'Remo'. I've never heard of them and the only reference I could find online is a 1938 ad in the BRoken Hill newspaper.

http://trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/47963013.

Its a battery set 135v, 2v and is 1938 vintage. It has the usual 5 2v valves, 1C4,1D4 etc.

It is obviously a rebadged something, as the ID plaque has been screwed over the top of the manufacturers markings. It was distributed by Bennett & Wood in Sydney.

Anyone seen this brand before?

Ben

I've never seen or heard of this brand before.

Bennett & Wood was a chain store that had branches in most major NSW centres.

Arthur Courtneys HRSA radio brands list has a later 1940's Remo using a Breville chassis. This could be a clue as to the radios origin. Plus there is something a bit Brevillish about this radio.

I checked the AORSM Brevilles, but all their 5 valve, 2 volt battery models used vibrators. I haven't checked the Mingays Radio Trade Annuals yet.

Can you provide the full valve line-up?

This radio will be a stunner once its restored!

Interesting mystery set.

the ID plaque has been screwed over the top of the manufacturers markings.

A close-up photo of that ID plate may be useful.

Are you able to unscrew it and reveal what's underneath?

Here are some more photos, under the ID plaque is the number 6793. This is a recurring theme and appears on the sides of the chassis too. The valve lineup is 1K6 1D4 1C4 1C4 and unknown (markings rubbed off - 6 pin with grid cap)

Interesting little set and should restore quite easily. I like these battery sets, no transformer to burn out. Although always a possibility of B+ applied to filaments.

It would be most likely the mystery valve is a 1C6. Here is a list of all known broadcast only battery radios with your valve line-up including the 1C6:

AWA 161B
Bandmaster 357MB
Healing 57B
Healing 527B
Westinghouse 357
Aristocrat 855
Aristocrat 855M
Healing 58B
Lekmek 536
*Howard 855B
*Howard 857B
*Calstan B5VM
*Healing 508A
*Healing 518A

All the circuits for these, except marked *, can be found in volumes 1 & 2 of the AORSM.

That is a common AWA Paint colour.
