Who amongst our members remembers G.B. Telespares, located in Queensberry St Nth Melbourne?
Back in the days before Kitset, the first, Dick Smith, later, Jaycar, Altronics, and another long term player Preston Electronic Components, a supplier to schools, I believe. When one wanted to repair something, electrical, parts were not available to the public.

I purchased items from a TV repair shop, where I was later offered an apprenticeship.
Back then, one only needed the number on a tapped potentiometer to get a replacement.

I could ask for a 123 M ohm resistor for an A.W.A. TV or quote the numbers for the numerous transformers, input chokes, or driver transformers for Astor car radios.to get a replacement item.

By the way. The Court House Hotel on the corner is where I scored my first 180 in darts.

I welcome stories from other members of their early days in the trade.

Wayne.
