The formula was presented properly in the text. The problem was my misinterpretation of it.

I'm no mathematician, but I wouldn't trust Excel with an equation of that complexity if looking for a precise result. It has built-in rounding factors that can compound through progressive stages of an equation.

After Ian pointed out my error of interpretation, Excel did return the correct answer to 2 decimal places. However, at one point I did have in the back of my mind the infamous Intel Pentium floating point bug of the 1990s:
