Last night the South Sydney Rabbitohs beat the Sydney Roosters by 32-22 in the first of the preliminary finals. Tonight the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs sent the Penrith Panthers packing by 18-12.

Canterbury and Souths

This leaves Souths and Canterbury to clash in the Grand Final on Sunday, 5th October at Olympic Park. Whilst Canterbury will go in as the underdogs, with two players out and a risk of two other key players not being there due to injuries sustained tonight, I am going to boldly tip a Canterbury victory. Well, I am hoping that is what happens anyway. Smile

Canterbury-Bankstown and South Sydney are the third and second oldest surviving clubs in the main competition yet this will be the second time they have met in a grand final, the last in 1967. Souths hold 20 premierships and Canterbury hold 8 though Souths haven't won a premiership or even been grand finalists since 1971. Canterbury have been to 11 grand finals and won 6 in that time.

I find nothing sounds more exciting than a robust football call through the valves of an old Radiola.
Go the Bunnies.

It looks like both sides are facing challenges with injuries and possible suspensions. Let's hope both sides can be out there with their strongest sides.

Sad to report that the Doggies didn't get up this time. Sad

Not to worry, there's always next year. Wink

Here's the results of today's fixtures:-

Holden Cup: Auckland Warriors 34 - Brisbane Broncos 32.
State Championship: Northern Pride (QLD) 32 - Penrith Panthers (NSW) 28.
Telstra Premiership: South Sydney Rabbitohs 30 - Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs 6.

Crowd: 83,833.

All over for another year. Bring on the cricket.

Nothing sad about it!

I'm told there was rejoicing in Redfern till the very early hours...

Meanwhile in the real game of football, Western Sydney Wanderers have made it to the two-stage Asian Champions League Final playing Al Hilal (Saudi Arabia) in Sydney on October 25.

To quote LaurieG

"I find nothing sounds more exciting than a robust football call through the valves of an old Radiola.

You know Funny... I was listening to it on the old Plum but at half time I went and watched the end

thought not overly a footie Fan, I do bleed Red and Green and South Sydney was my home for many years been 43 years coming and I remember a roof as you pull into Redfern station that was painted red and Green ..some dip sticks painted in white paint text over it but you can still see the red and green if you look really hard through the dirt of 43 years...it may be gone now as as I haven't been through Redfern in a few months and the place was falling down..part of the rail yards workshops...but I remember when it shined in Bright Red and Green

Foot note: to be accurate, I am not exactly sure the year it was done but souths was in the Grand final it was early 70's for sure that I remember
