Taped this parody song (to the tune of "Tie Me Kangaroo Down Sport") off 4KQ. Seems Qantas is not in good financial shape...

$2.3bn loss this year. CEO, Alan Joyce, whose head some believe should be on the chopping block reckons Qantas will bounce back over the next year. Virgin made a loss of $200m, which is small by comparison though Virgin is a much smaller airline.

Those over in the 7th state can, for the time being, boast that Air New Zealand made a profit of about $300m.

Here's a Qantas ad from their more profitable times:-

Air New Zealand made a profit of about $300m.

They have a big advantage; they didn't buy any A380s.

I doubt they'd have a market for one of those behemoths. NZ's population is smaller than Sydney's.

There was a recent article in the papers here that Airbus is pondering on shelving A380 production once the current batch of firm orders runs dry as there aren't enough orders to sustain their manufacture. It'd be a shame, as the A380 is a great plane to watch in action. Despite it's immense size it is one of the quietest planes in the sky and its passengers get the best ride quality.
