This obviously an AWA 573MA but is listed as a British made AEI which I thought was a mistake until I saw the front logo which is definitely AEI.

I seem to remember reading that because we were part of the 'British Empire' they could get away with saying the radios were British made. I would assume this would have been for the export market. I have never heard of AEI in relation to radios.

AEI became the owner of the Hotpoint brand after AGE stopped using it and thus Hotpoint radios adopted the AEI name, still made by AWA.

Radios made by AWA were labelled as 'British made' if they were intended for export.

Thanks for that Brad, I've seen plenty of the 573MA branded as an AGE before so the change must have happened during the production run of this model. I suspect there's not too many AEI's around, especially if they're marked as British Made.

Really?

This labelling was most eminent on 30s Radiolettes that ended up in NZ.
