Hi,

I am wondering if a member might be able to assist me.

The tuning cord of the aforementioned broke.

I removed the cover with the intention of replacing the cord.

The problem is that I have no idea which way the cord is wound.

Any assistance will be deeply appreciated.

From what I can see you aren't far wrong.

Photo 1: The main pulley on the tuning condenser should be around to the right a little more so there is no direct tension on the spring.

Photo 2: The cord is off the brass pulley.

Photo 3: As per photo 1.

Photo 4: There should be three or four turns around the pulley for the tuning control so the pulley can grip the cord with the tension from the spring on the main pulley.

The slide for the dial pointer, I would lube that with some silicon spray too, just to lighten the load on the cord and spring. Be careful not to get any spray on the cord though otherwise it won't grip on the tuning control pulley.

Some attention also may need to be paid to the current position of the dial pointer, by the looks it is at the wrong end for the position of the main pulley. I could be wrong but it is worth double checking.

This is an original Music Masters:

also everything else Brad said Grin

also, the cord will not cross at the tuning knob pulley like that.
That would just wear the cord.

Are there any wear marks along the corner fold in the metal because that setup is ridiculous.
The tension is converted 90 degrees a number of times.

There's no benefit turning this one way over another other than crossing the cord.
If we do that rock climbing we get seriously repremanded!

And I thank you for your input.

I have very limited knowledge thus my request for information.

When I initially removed the cover, the original cord was in two pieces thus my work is guesswork at its best or perhaps, at its worst.

Hal

Just a quick thank you to you guys.

The tuner is fixed. Could not have done it without your assistance.

Glad to hear, like Brad said, you can lube all the pulleys (not the cord),
and if you want to go further, a trick I discovered, you can also wax the cord with beeswax to better grip all pulleys.
The radio guts shouldn't get to the melting point of the wax or there is a problem.

I don't think any of this applies in this case where your radio has no pulleys though!

Hi,

The pulleys appear to be smooth turning.

The cord seems to be working well.

I only listen to the music on one channel anyway.

Although, thank you for the suggestions.

There was some loose wax, which I removed from the compartment...with the electricity turned off at the power point.

Regards

Hal
