Music Masters Mendelssohn early 50's (I think).
This is why I don't mind fixing it and giving it back to my doctor.
The over size speaker is my fault, It's just a spare 12 inch I had,
where the unit really wants a 10 inch driver.

Funny I just won an auction for a Music Masters Beethoven chassis for $15,
so that's the third that has landed in my hands in the short time I've been in it.

The overlap will cause distortion; maybe not a problem with this old radio but in general it will be.

In future, if you can find a 10 inch then use it, otherwise would widen the hole.

It's going back to it's home..
it must be sentimental reasons keeping it there non-working all this time.

It would be nice if I had one, but fixing it is just a favour,
and a 10 inch speaker is $100 or so, I just recently bought a paper Jensen 10 inch for $120.

I really doubt they intend to use it, the Husband/Father is no longer here.
I can't see any other reason it would have been kept.

Beauty is clearly not just about the aesthetics, it includes any attached sentimental value. The Philips in my avatar is a plain Jane, but it has been in my life since I was two years old.

Personally, I find those broad-grain bent veneer "modern" styles of the 40s-50s much less appealing than more classic cabinet work. The style reminds me of the giant "streamline" sofas of the same period, that always end up smelling of horsehair, tobacco and worse.

For me it depends what is original, and what isn't.
I don't know with this one whether that speaker panel is added later for example.
But if this is it, I'm not unimpressed with more than it's appeal,
it didn't fit together easily. I like the radios themselves though.
