Happy New Year everyone,
Does anyone have any information on Vogue radios in Australia. I have the one on the right as shown in this 1932 Advertisment.

Thanks,
Gary

A Trove search shows the Vogue was exclusive to Nicholsons of Western Australia between 1929 & 1935.

There was also a Vogue branded radio sold by Allans in the eastern states, 1929 & 1930. Unsure whether this is the same make as the ones sold in the west.

EDIT: Nicholsons also owned radio station 6PR. 6PR had a daily programme called "Vogue Radio Hour" in 1932. Between 1934 -1936 6PR had a another daily programme: "Vogue Radio Matinee".

Yes the State Library WA has a nice photo;

http://innopac.slwa.wa.gov.au/record=b2608001

It shows Vogue and Victor. But I wonder who manufactured them. Once I get around to restoring it I'll derive the schematic and probably find a match with a well-known manufacturer. Would be nice if it was built in WA but I doubt it.
Does anyone else have a Vogue Radio?
Here are some pictures of it;

Notice that there is a plate missing from the rear of the chassis. Would love to know what was on it. Perhaps someone else may have one?
Thanks for your help,
Gary

Notice that there is a plate missing from the rear of the chassis.

Pity about that. It may have contained the model information you are seeking.

No mention of the Vogue brand for that era on Radiomuseum outside of the USA.

What is its valve line-up?

It is a 5 valve TRF.
235, 235, 224, 247, 280
It has a nice blue Arcturs (124) as the detector. I am waiting till the camera is recharged and I'll put photos up of the chassis detail.
Checking the Radio Museum for the 5 valve line-up and the 235 front end the only radio that appears to match is the AWA 46E CH-C92 however there is not much info on it.

There is a signature & date on the chassis.
April 18, 1932. It is written in the American format so perhaps this chassis was made in the US.

Here are the rest of the pictures.

Hopefully someone recognises the layout.

If there is slippage in the tuner friction drive, try turning one or both of the drive washers around - they get worn - worked for me.

I'm seeing 18/4/32, which if written in the USA would be 4/18/32.

I've not seen an autographed chassis before. I think I can see 4 signatures. Nice touch.

The top of the chassis needs a good refurbish but luckily the underneath where the signature is ok. This chassis has steel cover on the bottom. Don’t know if that’s original but it has kept the inside clean.

Just following on Vogue;
“Vogue Radios where manufactured by Targan Electric Co, Pty. Ltd under the Air-Master brand and rebadged as Vogue from late 1929 through until 1931. These radios where distributed by Allan’s Music Store, 51 Rundle street, Adelaide, South Australia and Nicholson’s Ltd, Barrack Street, Perth Western Australia.
Vogue models included;
• Vogue Console “3”
• Vogue Console “4”
• Vogue Console “5”
• Junior Vogue – rare Australian Cathedral (June 1930)
• Vogue Radio & Phono Combination. – Expensive 8 valve combination priced at 85 pounds.
Information from “Australian radio advertisements of the 20th century" Stephen Savell, first edition 2011. Pages 137, 150 & 151.”

Mine looks like it could be "5"

Thanks for the follow-up info. I'll see if I can get that published on Radiomuseum, along with your photos if you are agreeable.

Targan Electric Co., 131 Brunswick Rd., Brunswick, Victoria.

Is there any mention in Savell's book who made Vogue radios after 1931?

There are a couple of interesting things here:

Both Nicholsons & Allans were music retailers operating the same kind of business. Both sold Vogue branded radios. Also the two firms established radio stations - Nicholsons, 6PR and Allans (with the Age Newspaper & J.C. Williamsons), 3AW in Feb., 1932.

The interesting part is the 3AW consortium was called "The Vogue Broadcasting Co".

Hmmm. I looked before I asked and only saw entries for France and USA under brand = Vogue. Still the case as I look now.

Ernest has to Vet them first.
He has put the part in about the manufacture so far.
