Hi again,
Well heres why I'm here.
http://imgur.com/a/LOlgS#0.
I picked up this beauty from a garage sale. The only thing missing is the original speaker.
All I intend on doing is giving her a clean, new speaker cloth, fix up the dial indicator, replace the caps find a speaker, and you know how the rest goes...
Anyway thanks for taking a look and any Info is much appreciated
thanks
Darren

If you can work out what valves that are in the radio, and look up this site
http://www.hws.org.au/RadioHistory/manufacturers
you might be able to work out which model you have. Then someone will come up with a circuit.
The site appears to be down at the moment.
Be careful with the valves - very easy to rub the markings off the glass.

Yep, let us know the valve line-up and we'll see what we can find.

That site is either not well financed or someone is flooding it. Very rare to see a bandwidth limit error come up these days.

A valve a day keeps the transistor away...

Hi Ozi.
I think your Essanay may be a battery/vibrator powered radio. If this is the case, do not attempt to plug into the 240V mains, as it will cause irreversible damage to the set.
Your radio, going by the stations on the dial, dates from around 1937.
Is the valve line up: 1C6, 1K6, 1K6 & 1D4?

If the ARTS&P licence sticker is still on the back of the chassis, you might be able to confirm Monochrome625's age estimate. Prefix A = 1934, B = 1935 etc, 1937 would be D.

G'day 625 and 830
Looks DC the way its wired but I've had very limited 'hands on' with something this old. I can follow the paths and see what its doing but yeah its a little messy.
Prefix of c.
Valve ID's are worn but can make out:
6d8 - 1m5 - 1c5g(or 1c7g) - 1d4.
There are some pencil markings for the valves underneath but the only one I can make out is the first - 1c6 which has the Phillips 6d8 valve in its place. If you need better pics let me know.
cheers

Again, what I think you might have there is a 6 volt battery/vibrator radio. These run off a 6 volt accumulator which is fed in to a vibrator and a step-up transformer.
These sets were typically used in rural areas where no mains electricity was available.
The original valve line-up was most likely: 1C6, 1C4, 1K6 & 1D4 or 1C6, 1K6, 1K6 & 1D4.
As for service information, the only thing I can find that may resemble your radio is the Astor FG (Aladdin) and Astor HA.
Also please note that a restoration of a radio like this would be no easy feat & nor for the faint hearted either. The radio looks like it has been "got at" somewhere along the way, going by the valve changes. Not having the right service information doesn't help either.
