I don't know if that's what I want to hear.
I'm still after working chassis, and the way I figure to
target them on the cheap is to find potential in cabinets
that I think are beyond repair.

If I got a nice radio or two to get my money back,
that would be great, finding a good old speaker for mine
would also be great, so would some learning.

Hobbies are crap without goals. I want the Silicon Chip article,
and have considered two approaches:

A left hand side restoration of a rusty chassis,
where only the left side is restored.
complete disassembly, sockets out, sand/respray,
1mm tolerance for the line between the two sides,
preferably without causing harm to the spiders and webs
living in the right hand side. Possibly new production components.

2.
A vintage chassis with digital front end that maintains it's
analogue tuner. Small mono LCD display (alpha or dot matrix), frequency counter on a microcontroller,
and two stepper motors geared at different resolutions for fine and course control of the tuning capacitor's belt.

I am working toward the second.
I did initially think the whole valve radio thing would be a
week of investigation before going on my merry way and doing my thing.

I see you had to beat 6 other bidders within driving distance of Rosewood - so a few people thought there was some value in that lot. By the time you've sorted them, I think you'll be hooked for life. Digital is so last year.

I fell in love with it when I saw it, and again when I heard it, and hated it for some time in-between.

If anyone wants either of these, and can pick up from Ipswich, let me know:

Philips is nice cabinet, has radio, broken tuning gear, no valves.
May or may not have a speaker.

1930's cabinet has no radio or speaker.

I don't mean to sound posh or stuck up, but I've made the move to stereo now.

It had a gramophone. It worked straight up, both channels.
One of the valves flashes brightly for a second both times I turned it on,
but sounds great. I thought the valve was stuffed for sure, it was so bright.
It would be good to get a modern input into this one from the grammophone input.

This one makes noise, but no radio, but the clock works fine Smile

This one I've taken a liking to, there's five valves in there, and it's like a brick of steel.

It's a real mess though, no valves present, and wires cut everywhere,
it would be easiest to find a schematic and start again.
Looks like a PA amp as well, so I can save all my neighbours paying for a radio licence by blasting it up the street 24/7. That will make me popular.

That National "brick" looks like a school, church or workplace unit. School units usually combined a switch panel to select the speakers in different classrooms. There was some discussion on these in the thread that started on Baffle Boards a few weeks back. Worth checking out the history if possible.

I'll check it out. It's the most interesting looking.

I was able to repurpose a 60's Kriesler Stereophonic Smile

Great, perhaps you could send me his mobile number again Grin
He's not far away from me.
I did have it, we had to make arrangements,
and he also said I could ring again, it might be appropriate to check with him first.

His idea of junk and my idea of junk were not exactly the same,
and I regret giving away that old dummy cabinet now that I'd like to practice on one

He didn't seem particularly interested in selling things,
but I would like to know ahead of time if that ever happens again.
I wouldn't buy a big lot again, but I would certainly want to see the stuff Smile

Also he had a lot of junk chassis I'd really like to look at now.

What Motorolla? I don't remember one, It wasn't one I got working.
