Hi Guys,
Nice to see Silicon Chip still do the Vintage Radio article.

Has anyone here ever been featured in it?
The one I'm looking at is actually June, and it features
a collector, John de Hass, and his collection.

Also, I went to school with a Rodney Champness (the author of the article).
That is an uncommon name, but he is a VK3xx, and I'm in Queensland.
If anyone has met him, would he be around 40?
...making him a little on the younger side for vintage radios enthusiasts?

The Rodney who writes articles for Silicon Chip probably wishes that he was still around age 40. This photo is from 2003:

This website was lucky enough to get a link in an article once. I forget the year and month though there was mention of how to date radios in the same sentence. The link was to the site's old location on the former iServ network which I owned and ran at the time - a network of websites containing everything from a weblog on Australian politics to chat forums on various general topics, two web directories and of course, the mighty Vintage Radio & Television.

The Rodney who writes articles for Silicon Chip probably wishes that he was still around age 40.

I wish I was still 40 too! Perplexed

I just remembered the time this site got an honourable mention - it was March 2006 and the article was about the venerable Healing Scales radio.

Rodney's callsign is VK3UG.

The Rodney Champness that writes the articles is a Member of the Vintage Radio Club in NE Vic, and so is John DeHaas. Currently I am President of that club, he is long way past 40.

There are I think two sets that I have that have featured in SC, one is a Breville 730 The other a really nice Airzone Battery Console that was a repair and around another four that I did the electrics only on, belonging to another collectors.

That's not the same Rodney Champness Grin
but I had to ask, because I've never heard that name elsewhere,
let alone the first name too.
He also took an interest in modern electronics.

I aim to be VK4Fxxx very soon Smile
Somebody already got ART so I don't get FART.
I don't even get RT to make 4RT.

As far as I know a callsign can only have a two or three letter suffix and that depends on the licence type.

I want to break the Silicon Chip vintage article for a month.
It's great, but has been the same thing for the years I've been looking,
and I did look at them well before I got into this.

Basically this:
Image Link

I would like to know if, should it be completed, would make it,
and would appreciate a contact for Rodney.
The benefit for me is in plugging three companies.

I'm very close to what needs to happen before it's all in microcontroller land, and I'm home free.
I want to see the day the radio naturally drifts, and corrects itself while running.
It will never settle at two decimal places, so will need a
tolerance before trying to correct itself to the station that was originally tuned, using stepper motors.

If the analogue pots make it, they have to be moved,
and are black anodised aluminium.
What is displayed in the mock, are the real parts.

My electronics and two stepper motors don't ask for much room in the 2U instrument box,
so the vintage chassis can be recessed.

I got a 6U internally lit cabinet for it, but think it's unsuitable now.
