When's the workshop warming party? I'm sure there'd be plenty of takers here to help with the move and have a sticky beak Smile

I'm not counting my chickens yet. When I get the keys the first step is to clean the place. It's not dirty but there's quite a bit of dust on the floor.

Then I'm going to source a compactus and get that installed as there's no gain in moving piles of stuff from one location to piles at the other one.

Then I have to decide on the bench situation. My ideal is to have a very long one against one wall probably made of Dexion. That will allow me to work on multiple projects simultaneously in sections along its length so that when I get held up on one I can move onto another.

I am also toying with having a heavy duty island type bench in the middle of the floor with vyse, grinder, and small drill press on the corners.

And I would like a small bench on wheels to allow test gear to be easily shifted to where it's needed.

Once I decide on the layout I need to get the power and lighting situation sorted out. At the moment there's only one power point situated beside the circuit breakers.

And I will have to do something about local lighting as the standard lights comprise 6 single fluoro tubes on the ceiling which is about 3.5 metres high.

So, quite a bit to do once I get the keys.

Solicitor called me today with one of those "I've got good news and bad news" introductions.

The good news is that we will probably settle next Thursday, one day before they and the vendor close office for Christmas.

The bad news is that she forgot to factor in GST to the amount on which stamp duty is calculated, so I had to draw another cheque in favour of the Office of State Revenue.

How NSW gets away with charging a tax on a tax beats me. Howard should have stared the NSW government down over that blatant reneging on the GST deal.

I took possession of the new workshop space this afternoon.

Have swept the floor and while doing so talked myself into painting it while I have the opportunity. So, the price hunt for suitable paving/garage floor paint begins.

Congratulations Smile

Edit,,, mezzanine with mattress might be an idea when you can't put down whatever you're working on until you drop.

Thanks.

I'm thinking of eventually building a mezzanine over the car space, so a foam rubber mattress up there might be an idea. There are two private access showers on the site so a bloke could become a veritable hermit if necessary.

Speaking of facilities, when I performed the final inspection along with the vendor earlier today we were greeted with a very unwelcome situation.

Immediately the door was opened there was a pong that would (as Kenny says) outlast religion. Somebody has taken a crap in the internal toilet and then realised that the water wasn't connected, ergo no flush. The last person to be given the key was the property valuer sent by the bank back on November 25.

I have a mind to email the bank about this unexpected deposit!

You should offer to pay them back with interest. I'm sure they could not resist.

I don't know about interest but I was thinking of refunding it.

I'm heading back there tonight to change the lock ... and to test the after hours access code on the gate.

I'll wave at the cameras, too.

Paint on the floor is good.... Carpet is better if you can find some decent 2nd hand stuff.

Thats my 2.2c worth.

No comment on the plumbing!

Good to hear the acquisition went well! Smile

I made one of my own the other day and it was delivered today - a cream coloured Healing Moderne, also known as The Scales from around 1950. It is in very good condition but requires a service and a cabinet polish.

These radios are a bit delicate but the seller did wrap it fairly well.

Shame a redback spider didn't bite the bugger who pooped on your out-of-service dunny.

I want to paint it to better deal with spills, especially in the car bay section. I may then put a run of carpet in front of the main work bench.

I'm looking at using good industrial paint like this:

... but I haven't priced it yet. I need to do 80 sqm.

Actually, I'm glad there wasn't a red back in residence as I needed a favourable valuation which is what came through. A spider bite might have resulted in an adverse valuation.

Well done on the scales. Now all you need is a workshop that you can use!

Yes, that is one of my Christmas projects - liberating my workbench of all the junk on it.

That Rhino product looks like a heavy epoxy or a cement-based product, not a paint per se. I suspect you may find it very expensive and requires professional application.

You might find a vinyl sheet product, like modern versions of linoleum, cheaper all round and easy to fix.

Man, how rude... especially when there's an audit trail leading straight to the culprit!

All it takes is a bucket of water from any other source.. that's all the cistern is doing. Gross!
