My father recently died and among his goods I found an Astor Model KQ portable valve radio, manufactured in 1947. It cream in colour, a bit worn, but undamaged except for a small crack in the plastic door.

I do not know if it is in working condition still, but was about 30 years ago when last used.

There has been some modification (reversible) to the battery terminals so it could take more modern batteries.

Is this radio worth anything? and if so, where is the best place to sell/auction it in Melbourne.

Your advice would be appreciated.

From my observation, there's not a huge market for battery portables of that vintage. They don't sell well -- if at all -- at Sydney HRSA auctions although I have been told they tend to sell better in VIC. (Not sure if that's actually the case)

I've seen that model or similar on eBay a number of times. I don't recall there being much interest in them there, either.

Others here may have a different experience.
