Radio station 3MB, Birchip, Victoria commenced services on 26/10/1935.

They ceased operations when 3CV, Maryborough commenced services on 31/03/1938.

Can anyone help me with a name or company name of the original licensee of 3MB?

Cheers.

Dr Bruce Carty may know the answer and, if so, it's probably mentioned in his book:

Thanks GTC.

Just ordered "On the Air" and hopefully it will shed some light on my research.

Further research this afternoon found a radio programme guide on Trove (1937) that had 3MB affiliated with 3UZ, which was owned/ran by J. Nilsen/Argus Newspapers. It had 3MB as an "Associated Station", which may indicate that it was not owned by or licensed to J. Nilsen/Argus. The Argus network included 3UZ, 3SR, 3YB, 3UL & 3MB.

3MB started in 1935, but the earliest reference to it on Trove is 1937. As Trove are continually adding more newspaper titles, something may eventually turn up.

Cheers.

Further to this post, just discovered 3MB's successor 3CV, Maryborough spent its first 5 years in Charlton.

I received my copy today of "On the Air" Australian Radio History by Bruce Carty.

Thanks again to GTC for putting me on to it.

This book has lots of information and history of all the individual Australian broadcast stations.

As a result my question has been answered. The licensee of 3MB was Mallee Broadcasters P/L.

Thanks & Cheers.
