Hi guys, I need some help identifying the model, finding schematics, and identifying the audio valve type.
Please see photos:

It's front panel has a Mercury namebadge, but the chassis has no identifying marks or labels. It's definitely Australian, by the components. Valves are 6A8G, 6B8G, unknown, and 5Y3GT.
Appreciate any assistance.
thanks
Pete

I've seen a radio with a cabinet like that before but I cant think what brand it might of been. Some reason I'm thinking Scharnberg Strauss. The chassis has a definite Radio Corp (Astor) feel to it - from the power transformer, the dial glass, to the little hole in the back of the chassis to test the HT. I'd be certainly looking in that direction. Radio Corp radios like Astor, Monarch, Peter Pan, National & some early Pyes usually will have 2 or 3 letter model prefix followed by a serial number stamped somewhere on the chassis. The unknown valve is a 6V6GT. Astor models with the same valve line-up are: JJ, KL, LS, KM, GJ, GS, KK & NJ. Monarch models: BKL, GKL, DKL, DJJ & HN. Peter Pan models: BKL, GKL, BKM, FJJ & HN. National models: AKL,& HKL. Sorry about the overload of model numbers but the point I'm making is that if you radio has a 3 letter model prefix and ends in say KM, then it would be likely the circuit is the same as a Astor KM.

I hope this is of some help.

Cheers.

Many thanks Monochrome 625. Most helpful. At least I can order the valves, and start cleaning the chassis looking for some sort of Model number. Don't really need the schematic, just makes it a bit easier to figure out the replacement caps, etc. and to double check the owner hasn't done too many illegal/unsafe mods. Evidently he was a tinkerer (may he rest in peace), and I'm re-building to operable condition for his daughter.
Kind regards,
Pete

Hi Pete,

Looks like my Peter Pan model JKL....about 1948.

Also can be a Croyden during 1948 / 1949 and National with model W240, again in 1948.

All made by Astor

Cheers
Marc
