I am considering changing the electrics of this vehicle to a 12 volt system. I have been advised that a resistor type reducer will not operate the vibrator type radio successfully. Is there another method that I could use for the voltage reduction ?. Any assistance would be GREATLY APPRECIATED.

As far as I can see a series resistance may not work because the load on the primary side of the vibrator constantly changes. You would need to either buy or make a DC to DC voltage convertor. Jaycar and/or Dick Smith may be able to help with a kit however you would also need to account for the current drain of a 6 volt radio.

A valve a day keeps the transistor away...
