I have rescued a Trio JR 60 Communcations Receiver from being trashed. I am in the process of cleaning it .... underneath multiple layers of dirt, it appears to be completely original. All appropriate valves in place etc.. My intention is to get it operational ... a change from 5 valve superhet refurbs.

So far, I have found an Alignment brochure and a blurry circuit diagram via Google etc, but not a User Manual.

So if anyone knows anything about these Receivers, or knows where to locate a User Manual or clear circuit diagram, I would appreciate their help.

Thanks,
Ian

There's a schematic on Radiomuseum.org:

http://www.radiomuseum.org/r/trio_kenwo_communications_receiver_j.html.

... but only museum members can download. I don't know if anybody here is a member but there are some in the HRSA.

I have a membership at radiomuseum, and downloaded to diagram, but it's a bit blurry. Maybe like the one you found via Google. I think my email address is available here, so email me and I can reply with the diagram attached. wa2ise.ix.netcom.com

The usual caps will need to be replaced. Japanese radios often used grey coloured coupling caps that are usually quite leaky nowadays.

I have recently seen one Japanese built late 60's communications reciever with two 115V windings to enable a series connection for use here or in Europe.

That had oil filled caps, which I suspect were based on metalised paper. Not a good idea to dismantle these, as the oil, is likely full of PCB's.

One oil filled cap was on the mains??? It had exploded; None of the others were any good either and were replaced.

If it has these, I would be inclined to replace all of them along with all of the electrolytics.

Marc

Hiya Ian, found it at http://bama.edebris.com/manuals/kenwood/jr60 not sure of quality, I am posting this with an android tablet & find it a bit cumbersome at the moment till I get the hang of it! Smile

Hi all,

Wa2ise - I have sent you an email with my address.

Duconbuster - Yes, the BAMA circuit diagram is the one I have already, but is blurry. Hopefully the diagram from Wa2ise/GTC (radiomuseum) will be better.

Mark - Sounds like the same as the one I have, 2 x 115v windings wired in series. As to the caps, I am not sure if they are the oil filled. Some are Elna, grey casings. The filter cap(s) is(are) in a metal can.
I would like to leave it original, if safe to do so. How confident can I be if these caps are tested with a Capacitance tester and Multimeter and are okay?? (I don't have any high voltage testing equipment).

I haved just found a very similar Receiver made by Trio, 9R-59, with circuit and Manual. A quick 'look' indicates that it is very close to the JR-60.

Thanks,
Ian

Hi Ian, just emailed it to you. Looked at Duconbuster's and it has more info, like alignment info. I think mine is blurry in other spots, and hopefully you can get enough info to fill in any gaps between the two.

Wa2ise,

Got your circuit diagram ... thanks. Yes, it is essentially the same as Duconbuster circuit with a few small changes. And luckily for me ..... the blurriness is in different sections of the diagram.

Yes, I have the alignment info.

The 9R-59 circuit will also help, but it is a basic version of the JR-60.

Thanks to all for assistance,
Ian
