Hi,
Recently inherited the above radio/record player which fits perfectly with our decor. Whilst it worked the very first moment we played the first song on a record, it began jumping and repeating. The stylus looked a little worse for wear which I replaced but again after a couple of song started experiencing issues again, via the speed slowing down and speeding up. Is there something that I can fix here myself or is there someone here in Adelaide that specialises with this model that needs to look at it? Great site by the way. Cheers, Joel

Sounds like the idler pulley needs a new band or the whole turntable mechanism needs lubrication, or perhaps both.
If the stylus is jumping and the record is in good nick then check the tonearm for correct movement across its normal range. Dried grease/oil may be obstructing its free movement.

There is info in the AORSM's on a (Plessey) Collaro turntable (HMV sec). This does point out that these things need lubrication at around 500hr intervals, which never happens.
The motor in the vast majority of these has an oil wick at each end of the rotor as they have "plain" bearings; these are rarely self lubricating. These wicks also go dry, which is not good for the bearings.
The spindle of the platter also needs a smear of grease, but clean out any old stuff first, as the different types & brands may adversely, chemically react

The Kriesler 11-103 usually has a Garrard AT6 auto changer.( I think some had a BSR - much simpler than a Garrard) The problem you have is likely to be a number of things: 1- The grease has gone hard in the moving parts such as the platter spindle and bearing race. 2- The Garrard auto change gear often seizes on its spindle + the auto-trip lever on it also seizes (a very typical Garrard problem) - you can tell this by the tone-arm not lifting automatically at the end of play. 3- Not enough weight on the pick-up - should be about 6 grams. The best way to get these changers working properly again (particulary Garrards & Collaros) is to strip them down and remove all the old hardened grease with kerosene.
The idler (jockey) wheel usually doesn't give trouble but it wont do any harm by roughing it up bit with some fine wet & dry sand paper.

There is info scattered about the web on turntables. The return mechanism failed on the HMV that the Radio Club I am President of. The arm underneath seized in the middle of its travel, wholly due to dry grease in the bearing.
There are records of several BSR (British Sonotone) platters actually locking that hard that it is virtually and sometimes totally, impossible to remove the platter.
That is a lubrication issue. And I have actually seen one with the problem.
