Last night I was at Olympic Park to witness the mighty Canterbury Bankstown Bulldogs wipe the ground with the South Sydney Rabbitohs at the greatest football stadium ever constructed.

After a characteristic slow start to the game the Bulldogs lifted shortly before half time to pile on five unanswered tries, including an 8-point try in reply to a late knee to the back of Canterbury winger, Sam Perrett by Souths prop, Sam Burgess.

Score: Canterbury Bankstown 32 - South Sydney 8.
Crowd: 70,354.

In the other finals game this week the Melbourne Storm defeated the Manly Warringah at AAMI Park in Melbourne. Melbourne looked good only because Manly played like an under 7's team for most of the night and looked like they simply didn't want to be there.

Score: Melbourne 40 - Manly Warringah 12.
Crowd: 25,543.

NRL Grand Final 2012 - Canterbury Bankstown Bulldogs vs Melbourne Storm

This all means that Canterbury Bankstown will meet Melbourne in the Grand Final on Sunday, 30th September. My prediction: Canterbury Bankstown by 18 points in front of a capacity crowd of 84,000.

Maintain the rage - they will get there. Maybe a change of name back to Footscray will do the trick as it seems to have worked for Canterbury.

I'm not a big follower of Aussie Rules but I am glad to see Collingwood get put to pasture.

well, you could talk about the vintage radio you are going to use to listen to the game. Or vintage TV. If a TV set, be sure to take a picture of it with the game on it and post it. Like this

Up in the New York City area, we have the Yankees vs the Red Sox, an old rival. Though this season, the Red Sox are rather weak, and the Yankees are pretty hot.

Enjoy.

Technically my only old telly turns 30 this year so it qualifies as vintage. I might get it out for the Grand Final and take a photo. I might wind down the colour and get a second shot.

It's a Thorn 63T1 from 1982. They were made by AWA but had a Mitsubishi chassis. That said, they were one of the simplest chassis ever made for a coloured telly. Only one PCB about the same size as a motherboard for a computer - unlike the Philips and Rank Arena sets of the same period which were birds nests by comparison.

Nice telly by RCA. Quite similar in looks to the AWA and Westinghouse sets sold here in 1956.

I recommend watching the NRL Grand Final if you are able to get it in the US. It usually gets shown in the US, GB and NZ though I am not sure of what channels.

Scores for minor grade grand finals:-

NSW Cup: Newtown 22 - Balmain-Ryde Eastwood 18.
QLD Cup: Wynnum-Manly 20 - Redcliffe 10.
Toyota Cup: Wests 46 - Canberra 6.
Telstra Cup: Melbourne 14 - Canterbury-Bankstown 4.

Sadly the Doggies didn't get up there but they will be back in 2013 to have another go.

Wa2sie, I did try for the vintage telly screenshot but unfortunately the analogue reception from Channel 9 isn't the best in this part of town. Perplexed
