I am sorry to hear of your difficulties. I had some sharp backpain about 20 years ago and at its peak I was flat on it for several days until the inflammation went down.

I hope you are well soon and able to resume your hobby, even if it means collecting something a tad more portable. Smile

When you have some pictures ready, start a new thread in Wanted and For Sale and either post links or send me the pics and I will host them here.

Anyone who has back pain has my sympathy. Not being able to walk or sleep or even sit in the one place for more than a few minutes does nothing for one's mood.

I hope the op goes well.

"I will need an operation which I cant afford but needs to be done so its going to be very hard to see some of them go." And I thought it was that the USA was the only advanced country without decent health coverage for everyone. Anyway...

I suppose you're looking to sell off the heavier items, but my being in the USA would make shipping prohibitively expensive.

I do hope that you can get well soon.

In one respect we are fairly lucky. You can have just about any operation you want in a public hospital here.

The downside is that unless your problem is critical then you have to wait, in some cases for several years and this includes things like knee replacements.

If its something like an organ transplant you are on a seperate waiting list and are in the door as soon as a compatible organ becomes available.

A sticking point for a lot of people here is that we sometimes end up with normal citizens waiting for surgery whilst prisoners with psychiatric issues occupy beds for taxpayer-funded sex change operations.

Having the benefit of previously working for the NSW Department of Health and later with Ramsay Healthcare, Australia's largest private hospital operator, I can see why health is a hot issue. Medical equipment is so expensive, regardless of where it is made and in the case of private hospitals, margins are small despite the billions of dollars that flow in and out of them. In the case of public hospitals, there's just too many of them for the amounts of funding they receive. NSW alone has 240 public hospitals and community health services with a population of only 7.5 million.
