How many different Palec valve testers are there?
I have circuits for VCT-2, VCT-V and Paton W.Y.A. 4456 Multitester are there any others and if so does anyone have circuits for them?
I am trying to help a collector get one running that does not match the models above.

There are indeed a few, VCT-x however, the number is on them.
There were two at one of our Radio Club meeting and I ended up replacing caps & fixing the mains cable on the one I did not own. I have photo's of the internals for comparison.
The VCT_V is rather untidy and has a 1V (UX4) and and mine the optional 6V vibrator. As these are pin interchageable I wonder at how many accidents.
These are both able to fall out, which is not clever in a portable device. It also has in mine (there are different meter movements) screws that can come out of the movement. Apart from letting bits loose inside, the screws can short on the mounting bracket & blow the meter.
The latter model has a tagboard similar to many 1930"s radios. which is much neater. It uses 1/2 6X5 (IO) in basically same manner as 1V. 1V is similar plate wise and a 6pin vibrator.
It has different valve sockets than VCT-V
I do have a pdf of the manual, which has circuit.
Every wax paper cap should be replaced
N.B. That on Meg & Cap test range they bite.

Hello all,
I have just become a member and I am getting into vintage radio. Recently I became the owner of a Palec multitester model WYA 4456 Mk 1. Does anyone have instructions for using it? and maybe a circuit diagram for the same. The power supply lead has been cut off so I guess I will have to give it a thorough checking before trying it.
Thanks Stan

The same applies to it as the VCT. Meters are no different to radios of that era. All electrolytic & paper caps where fitted should be tossed.
It is never unusual to find a burned out shunt. I had to make one recently for a meter that came in I have replaced the "output" range cap in an old Peak 200H, caps and resistors in several examples of Heathkit test apparatus and others, VCT and caps in an AVO 7X.
Tread cautiously with old equipment. Beware there are Signal Generators and the odd bit of metal cased stuff with no mains earth and capacitors of dubious integrity mains line to chasses: Insanity.

Thanks Marc,
The unit I have got has been modified in as much as there is now an additional two rows of valve bases added to it. It appears a plug as to be plugged into one of the original valve sockets to bring them in to use, so an original circuit would be handy If you know where I could get one. but until after the New Year I don't think that I will get much chance to delve into it.
Thanks again and Have a good New Year Stan
