I dunno but I asked my mum what her first TV was when she was a kid, she said a HMV TV with a vinyl case, I wonder, where are these sets now? I wanna bring back the memories, she said it was black and white too

I don't remember one with vinyl but I remember one made of black and white marviplate which had the speaker at one side and the control knobs and channel selector on top of the set.

A valve a day keeps the transistor away...

When I first went out teaching - 1965 - I bought my mum and dad a TV. Yes it had a vinyl skin over a metal case. God I cringe now but they thought it was the best thing, having been brought up on valve radios, and the Depression. Don't go down that road - early attempts to provide entertainment for the masses - sounds like Gerry Harvey a-la-1960s. Some things are just NOTcollectable, like P76s

The classic vinyl-covered metal set is the "tin-can" Pye Pedigree. The cost saved on woodwork went towards good quality components inside, and it outsold every other model. It's not rare, but collectors want them because they look modern in an old-fashioned way. That's understandable. They were the first full-size Australian sets that didn't try to be a piece of furniture. Like the Ford Cortina they were cheap without actually being bad, and almost everyone knew someone who had one.

I would think that anything that is collected despite expert advice is collectable.
