Hi to all!
For those that remember my post back in Sept' 2011, I have now received some feedback from the restorer of this fantastic radio. I have copied the feedback from the email he sent me so I thought I'd paste it here for all those interested to read - mind you! I don't understand too much of this technical stuff, but I'm sure those who are interested will certainly understand what he has written.
Here we go!!!
Hi Sherie,
Have located a compatible speaker for you which is maybe a year or two older than your radio. It is correct in the field coil is 1500 ohms and the speaker transformer is 5000 ohms as was your old one. I have rewired all the cracked up wiring on it and wired it up to electronically suit your radio design. Two of your valves were defective, the output 47 has an open circuit filament and a 24A valve is weak. I have found replacements for these. Next step is to check the chassis components, replace the filters, fit a power lead and start it up to see if it works. Once it is working, I will start dismantling and cleaning all the corrosion from the chassis and top mounted components and giving the top of the chassis rust treatment and a respray. As the corrosion is severe, it will take a while. In the meantime I will post you a template of the speaker for the correct cutting hole of the speaker baffle, mounting holes and a sample of the speaker material. Many Kind Regards,
Tony
Within the last 15 minutes have finally achieved excellent operation of the Gulbransen radio chassis for the first time since about the late 1940's to 1950's going by the age of the replacement components of the time. Have replaced many components under the chassis. Now I have to draw up all the component positions and connections as well as all the wiring which needs to be replaced to make it safe. Once all the coil cans and valve sockets as well as the tuning gang and power transformer are removed, I can start sanding the rust from the chassis, then treat and respray. The tuning gang is very corroded and needs to be dismantled before it can be sanded treated and resprayed. Still many hours of work required.
How is the cabinet going?
Many Kind Regards,
Tony

It all seems very exciting, & I anticipate to have this back & operational shortly after Xmas - I'll keep you all posted.

Everone have a "Merry Xmas" & "Happy New Year", & all stay safe.

Cheers,
Sheree.

Thanks for the update. Glad to hear the set is now operational.

There certainly is a lot of rust to be removed going by the chassis photos:

Would love to see some pics of the cabinet -- in whatever state of repair.
