Hi I am new to all this but have acquired the above model. The tuning cable is off and I'm looking for any info on reattaching this. I will hopefully be able to dust off and check its working condition. Although turntable and everything else is loose so will need to secure first.

I don't have any data on the 11-77, but I do have on the portable radiogram model 11-76 which may be a close relative, although there is no dial re-stringing diagram.

What is the valve line-up in the 11-77?

PS: Don't power up the unit until the basics have been checked out, otherwise you risk destroying components that you may not be able to replace.

That will not appear in AORSM's.

Define loose turntable. Normally they sit on springs to dampen vibration. They must not be rigid mounted.

There are screw holes in all corners of turntable but no screws in there so is just sitting there at the moment. Will have a look under for any springs.

Will check on the valve line up, and def will not turn it on until all basics are checked. Will check on the restringing as had to undo it because was tangled everywhere.

It may need the electroytic capacitors replaced and if it's old enough, wax paper capacitors should be replaced too. These parts don't age well, powered or not. But contrary to most expectations, tubes do age quite well if they sat around unpowered for many years.

G'day Sazzle,

Unlock your email address in your profile page and I'll send you the schematic and dial cord layout.

Cheers, Graham...

Out of interest, where was the schematic and cord layout published?

G'day GTC,

From a series of manuals produced by Ray Kelly for the HRSA. This series was centred on radios made after 1955, ie after AORSM, and individual volumes concentrated on particular brands.

Volume 5 contains factory service information on Kriesler models 11-56 to 11-102 along with models from National (Japan), Precedent, and Pye.

Other volumes cover the same era, some concentrating on one brand/manufacturer, ie Radio corporation; Astor, Peter Pan, Monarch, Croyden etc.

This series is out of stock at present, however, I have heard that the HRSA is looking at republishing them in the future, on paper or CD. Hope this happens as Ray Kelly put a huge amount of effort into these manuals.

If you are a member, maybe a word or two of interest from members may spur the committe to get the wheels moving.

Another source of info after AORSM is the JR service manuals. But I'm sure you already know of them.

Cheers, Graham...

Yes, I am familiar with JR. Is the out-of-print HRSA series you refer to known as "Those Missing Radio Service Manuals"?

Among other titles, yes. Volume 4 was titled "Australian Philips Radios 1956-65". Volume 2 was titled "Those Missing Circuits, 1939-42". This volume, (Vol 2), was mostly about Radio Corp and some of its brand names.

Cheers, Graham...

Cheers Graham,

Look forward to the email and getting in restoring it.

Does anyone know the original finish used on these models as the top is worn and peeling so thought I may aswell do the whole job and get it cleaned up.

Sarah

Tuning string done!

Now to start on the turntable which looks to be in good condition but needs remounting and seems to be missing some springs and bolts to mount. I have been looking where to buy these and any suggestions would be great.

I can't find anybody selling turntable suspension springs. Someone here may be able to point you to one, otherwise I think you may have to scavenge them from wrecks.
