Why are 6GW8's going for such high prices? There must be thousands of good ones in junkboxes out there.

The reason is that they are so expensive is that they are classed as a audio valve so this drives the prices up. It happened to all valves like this. Even the humble 6v6GT can fetch over $100 for a matched pair.

Just shop around. If you are a member of the HRSA they have a good valve bank and dont buy into the BS that happens on ebay and other valve suppliers.

I have seen on ebay 6CM5s that were supposably matched audio tubes! they had a rediclous price as well. This valve is a TV valve but can be used in an op stage of an audio amp, It isn’t very efficient and requires alot of bias.

People on ebay call just about any valve an audio valve and put a ridiculous price on them!
