I have just purchased a Kriesler World Range Cabinet style radio. I have looked through your suggestions on how to date a radio and the licence is prefixed by a D. Around what era is this. Am I dealing with a genuine vintage radio or a fake. Also are there websites with further technical information about this brand of radio. Would appreciate an help.
Thanks

G'day Roostsman,

Without the benefit of a photo all I can give you is an educated guess though I reckon what you have is certainly a genuine Kriesler radio from 1937. You'll spot a reproduction if you see it - they are poorly built (and usually in China) and mostly have a tape deck and FM reception.

If your radio has a bit of dust insideand has the post office licence transfer then what you have is the real McCoy.

The numbers of the radio are as follows:
D60137 is on the blue plate;
ARTS&P is a watermark on the same blue plate;
38841 is stamped onto the metal inner-workings.
Is there anywhere I can look these numbers up?

There is a LOT of dust inside and I believe the blue plate is a PO Licence Tansfer.

Some photos of licence transfers are located at: http://vintage-radio.com.au/default.asp?id=age3.

The number on the licence transfer is the licence number whilst the number stamped on the chassis is the radio's serial number. Model numbers are also sometimes stamped on though some makers, such as AWA, spray-painted them on with stencils.

With this in mind I have no doubt that your receiver is genuine.

Thanks for all your help. Is there anywhere on your site that I could email/add/upload photos of my radio? I would love to share it if it is infact a genuine vintage. This way you too could look at it and clarify for certain.
