John was a well-known figure on mainly Melbourne radio over many years, also playing the voice of Dickie Knee on Hey Hey It's Saturday comedy show.

He died from cancer complications. RIP.

I used to marvel at how fast he was with comebacks (especially to barbs from Molly Meldrum).

It was a tragic irony that the cancer seriously affected his ability speak.

Remember those TV ads he did: "G'day it's John Blackman here from Telecom Mobilenet, who's this?"

My mates and I used that line on phone calls back in the day.

Lung cancer is still the greatest killer of men in Australia.

Who else could get away with marketing a product that kills so many people?
With complete impunity.
