 What recourse to the victims of violent crime have?

This is a classic case where the justice system fails all of us. The sentences that have been reduced markedly in this matter should clearly have been increased by at least the same degree. Seriously, when is there ever a good reason for doing things like this? Words fail me.

Why do the police even bother when the beaks just keep giving these people a slap on the hand?

Unbelievable. At least the father's sentence remains:

QUOTE: He was ultimately granted leave to appeal on one ground but otherwise refused.

His total effective sentence of 12 years’ imprisonment remains with a non-parole period of eight years.
