At this stage, no. The notice will most likely be changed to state that the existing postings will remain for reference purposes but no new ones will be permitted as was suggested by another member some time ago.

The notice will most likely be changed ...

Definitely do that. It's been 'will re-open soon' for some years now.

Reminds me of a derelict shop where the owner has died and no one bothered to remove the 'Back in 15 Minutes' sign on the door.

and here (scroll down a bit) : https://vintage-radio.com.au/default.asp?f=1&th=1787

I think I saw another thread somewhere where Brad said he was going to change the text on that subforum's name, but nothing came of it.

Robert, I don't need a history lesson on this, thanks all the same. Unfortunately I do not even get to spend a lot of time on the site these days, let alone do anything to it. I often go more than a week without popping in.

That forum would still be open for its original purpose if I wasn't required to break up fights that were taking place on it. It even got to the stage where I had to apppoint some temporary moderators to govern its use but people seem to conveniently forget that part of the saga.

I do remember those moderators being appointed but not why. Whatever happened to them?

I don't even remember any fights, but if I bothered to look I should be able to find them. You're right - I seem to have forgotten about that.

Sorry for upsetting you. Sad

Nothing happened to them as such. From the beginnings of the forums in 2005 there has been no permanent site staff and it's my plan not to change that. In the months leading up to the Wanted and For Sale forum being locked I asked four people known to me to keep a random eye on that particular forum and they had the power to delete offending comments on that forum and suspend accounts. The latter was not required but all offending comments were deleted as soon as they were posted - moderators are able to set a function on that e-mails new comments to them for review and whilst I have never used it, the same function is available to me. The arrangement was always going to be temporary.

One thing I will do is thank the broader membership for what is ultimately a job well done. Many other forums have bitter personal disputes to deal with on an almost daily basis. We do not have this here. This, I feel, is more down to the way the members use the site rather than how the site is run and it is a credit to the membership.

It was unfortunate that Wanted and For Sale had to be locked. One member suggested that it could re-open again but only offer members the change to buy and sell at a personal level - ie: no commercial sales of radios or spare parts. Whilst this is a valid option, it would be difficult to police in some ways. I will give it some thought but only because Wanted and For Sale was the second most used forum when it was unlocked.

Hi Brad, from my point of view I would use the forum to find a particular item I may need, like a valve or a knob.
Like that Farm set I fixed last year or last century and I needed one 1M5 valve.

Also if someone wants to sell one or two sets, but not those guys who want $500 for a $50 wreck.
No.................... on second thoughts, no sets, bugger it.
I don't reckon you want commercial sellers on this site.
Let them use eBay or whatever that is set up to do the whole transaction with safety checks built in.

That crap that went on from some parts people slagging each other off was just childish.
Bits n pieces only.

Fred.

Here is a idea! Change the title to "Parts Wanted or to swap" ( No Sales) that leaves out any possibility of commercial sales.

Excellent idea Carl.

Lots of good stuff given to me that I want to pass on to genuine collector restorers.

Your idea if implemented will help my task.

Now I have fairly well had my Jan 27th request unit identified there is the problem of what to do with it and a few other bits including valves.
I can understand Brad's concerns and reservations which leads me to ask "Is there a similar site?"
I am the middle man in this and the owner is not out to "make a quid" but would like a "couple of Bob" if going to a good
home with a genuine collector.

If you have a few items to let go of, you can start a new thread here in General Discussion.
