Most will remember the disgraceful arson attack on Old Parliament House back on the 21st December, 2021. It was viewed at the time that restoration and repair of existing fixtures and building components would be next to impossible, with all damaged fabric requiring replacement.

Well, today we see that a full restoration of the damaged front entrance to the heritage-listed building which houses the Museum of Australian Democracy has been completed with most of the fixtures restored and the roof of the portico now supported by a fire-proof steel frame. An excellent job has been done by all to bring this magnificent building back to its former glory. Those involved with the restoration can be justifiably proud of their work.

Old Parliament House will now stand not only as the Museum of Australian Democracy but as a symbol that attacks on democracy will not be tolerated in any form.

Very good to see. Next I want to see the culprits gaoled for long periods, however as it seems they are appearing in local court before magistrates, then if they are gaoled, it likely won't be for very long.

Any action by a local court should just be a committal hearing. These matters should be heard by whatever the ACT calls the district court. If not then yes, the punishment won't fit the crime. I find it quite annoying that the matters haven't been heard yet.
