Earlier in the year I needed floppy disks to do a backup of the configuration of a 20 year old digital organ. Not trusting what was being flogged locally, I bought a new box of Laser brand disks from Japan.

Having successfully retrieved the data, I copied it to hard drive via a USB-connected floppy drive on my PC.

Floppies tended to be garbage toward the end of their reign. We take USB keys for granted these days as a portable medium with reliability. Back in the day I only ever used Nashua branded discs. They held data well.

The amusing thing is, 1.2MB of data back then was considered huge.

A valve a day keeps the transistor away...

How about the original 8" single sided, probably only held 500k.

Whilst 5" Floppy disks are still getable. Don't know their condition but I have a reasonable sized box of NOS.
