I'm a 'strange' fellow sometimes, and often have MULTIPLE Tabs open at once! And often over a 100 of them! hahaha.
I recently may have say 4 to 10 Tabs open, JUST for this Forum. However, hovering the Mouse over any such Tabs, generally only indicates the generic "Australian Vintage Radio Forums" etc. Would it be difficult for the 'Hover Text' to indicate what that particular links 'Topic/Post is?? If it's not easy, then that's not a problem!

Back in the day when this whole site was an integral part of the forum software, the non-forums parts of the site did have that feature. It was in the format "Page Decription Here - Vintage Radio". I never got around to including that on the forums but it is possible.

I can't promise when it could be done though. That is the trick. But, yes, it is possible.

Just for interest, Brad... I've been ill for a year!, (again!), and only just got back to this Forum...
As a laugh for other members too, I initially mentioned here that I've often got over 100 Browser Tabs open.
Well, because my laptop has 24-Gb RAM, just for fun I thought I'd see how far I could push it.... As a result
I presently have 1,200 TABS open!!, and the Browser's still happy!! hahaha... (They're being deleted xxx)

My screen gets crowded with more than six or seven tabs.

I've purchased a new laptop today as this morning I went to the well once too often with the old one. After more than nine years the hard disc has decided to fill itself with errors and whilst Windows will still boot up, I can no longer log in.

Tomorrow I need to remove the disc and copy all the data on F: Drive to my USB backup disc. It goes without saying that I was not prepared for this but sometimes it just happens that way. I am also going to start using One Drive and will see how that goes.

This new laptop will not be my main one but will be for the moment whilst I ponder on what to purchase. This one will end up being a machine I take on holidays and camps. Once I have the new main machine, I may get to start doing some work to this site and start replacing bits of it but there's no timetable for that due to work commitments.

I've recently hidden my satellite phone pretty well too, so that I cannot find it. So in the tech arena, I have not had a good week.

There’s nothing like a new powerful laptop for speed and long battery life. Onedrive was game changer for me. Not just for the cloud storage but the accessibility between devices and the intranet capabilities within. Real time collaboration is nice also.

There is an obsolete note book here. Don't really have a need to run around with a laptop. For the stuff I do, I have a circa 2000 computer running XP for a couple of programs & will drive the cantankerous 360 column dot matrix printer.

The all in one had an INVIDIA card voltage fault . Think I sorted that but its now the spare. For newsletters & photo work, I went back to a desktop and built a 2m long by 80cm wide steel framed dedicated paperwork desk; just for computer printer scanners etc.

To support the weight. The weird difference being that it has six legs; There is 40mm angle under the middle running long ways and a lower one similar around 150mm above the floor supported by the spreaders on the outer legs. It also stabilises the two middle legs 550mm in from the ends and stops the legs on the front spreading as there is no front rail.

The two inner legs form a load bearing triangle at the bench ends for the heavy Ink Jet printer etc. That lower mid rail also forms a frame for a shelf in conjunction with a rear rail. That leaves one half to carry loading and the front open for half the width. For the mobile office chair & others.

Being a desktop the stand alone monitor you choose so its a curved rectangular type 601mm by 305mm, which is helpful for old eyes and sits on an aging Tandy MS-10 stereo Amp. You may as well be comfortable. This is not in the house.

the cantankerous 360 column dot matrix printer.

What on earth do you use that for?

Hi GTC, Marc probably uses fan fold paper as well!

Hi Marc!

GTC believe it or not I used a dot matrix and fan fold in my workshop to print out invoices for jobs.
Only when it got hard to purchase decent ribbons did I swap to an ink jet and A4 paper.
That was around 2005.

The ink jet was a pain with cartridges until I hit on filling my own cartridges with bulk ink.
Cartridges then lasted a year or so before crudding up.
The dot matrix just buzzed away all day, reliable as all hell and probably equivalent to an ink tank printer of today.
I don't do much printing now, don't home print a book anymore (on coins), don't invoice, but if I did I would put in an ink tank printer.

Sorry guys a bit off topic.Fred.

Yes, 80 column and 136 column dot matrix printers are still being sold, but 360 column I've never seen or heard of.

The matrix is an interesting unit, Those were commonly used for running invoices as mentioned, the tractor feed paper was a layered carbon paper and you printed the duplicates that way.

That printer has its own dedicated, commercially made desk.

It was handy for doing vintage car rallies as you could fit all the data in one line.

Yes, I have been around long enough to remember noisy dot matrix printers. But I'm trying to imagine a 360 column wide printer. Even the hammer and drum type high speed line printers were only 132/160 column.

Some dot matrix printers were noisier than others. My family once owned an Oki which was 80 column so it printed on standard quarto fanfold paper but it didn't exhibit the screeching noise normally associated with this type of printer. It was also extremely fast, with the head moving across the carriage in no time at all. The buffer memory wasn't that grand though, so you'd get a few moments where the head would move in regular intervals, then it would take longer to print each line whilst the buffer memory loaded up again.

This one is built for work. The head has cooling fins and the cabinet runs fan forced air.

They were noisy buggers. Am familiar with foam-lined cabinets with fans to house them.

Need a photo of the printer carriage. What size paper does it use?

Speaking of noisy printers, do not forget golf ball printers and daisywheel printers. Better letter quality than dot matrix but not as fast.
