There is also an alternative like that which I used on the Airzone 612.

This had a conventional switch pot / volume. This I replaced with a non switched type. This being because I did not want the hassle of ruining its origanality too much by running a switched lead to the PS and adding extra plugs. For the tone & lights you could replace the switch & not have the extra position for on/off.

I used a commercial PS unit (as mentioned above). All that I did with the original battery wires was to replace them as they were deteriorated and put a five pin plug on the end of them to plug into the matching socket on the PS unit.

This is then switched off at the power point. Obviously some one has tried similar with the Operatic set but the execution was not well thought out.

I fail to see why you could not try something similar with the Operatic set. It was effective & simple and the only modification from original in the chassis wiring was the removal of the on /off switch.
