Last weekend I found myself in need of some electrolytic capacitors, so I checked my credit rating, and headed off to the local supplier.

Although I only needed 47 MFD electros with a 200 volt rating, the store stocks 47/63 and then jumps to 47/450. A higher rating than I needed, but the price of each capacitor was $7.50

I checked that the price was not an error, then politely declined to take any home. Oh well. No TV repairs this weekend.

Tuesday when I returned to work, I was working at Petersham. Just a few minutes drive from W.E.S. Components. So after finishing work for the day, I went there.

The caps that I needed were $0.90 each and very much smaller than the forty-seven year old caps they were to replace.

So if you work on televisions WES have a lot of TV related items, and I have never had to have anything back ordered.

I did not intend to make this sound like a testimonial, but wished to let Forum Members know there is a place to go for high voltage TV parts.

Again. Caveat Emptor, and shop around.

Happy restoring.

Wayne.

The WES catalogue is comprehensive and extensive. I use WES for stuff that Jaycar and Altronics don't stock. If it were closer to my workshop then I'd be there more often.

Yes, WES had the BF199s I needed recently.

Another tick for WES Components. I've used them for years, great for belts for tape players and all other items for servicing electronic gear. Well priced and quick delivery if you order online.

Mmmmm .... I applied for a Login but because I ticked the "Hobbyist" box, I was told that I needed to go to Wagner online.

That is the correct site.

Their catalogue is here: https://www.wes.com.au/OnlineCatalogue_price.aspx

Their printed catalogue is as thick as the old Sydney White pages.

I usually buy over the counter from Wagner (WES).

My workshop neighbour has an account with WES. If I need something delivered from them he orders it for me online using his account.

After years of servicing TV's using WES mail order parts (before I had internet, paid by cheque) I received a polite letter informing me my account was no longer welcomed because their business centred around wholesale orders only.

Fair enough. My shoe string budget was indeed dribs and drabs, so I accepted their polite 'piss off'-- business is business, after all.

I miss the variety of quality stock. After reading your comments I intend to try to re-establish contact.

I expect I will be classed as hobbyist too, I'll let you know the outcome.

After 40 odd years with WES, they also gave me the flick when I retired.
I was a bit annoyed at that as had spent many thousands of dollars with them over the years and just assumed that I no longer had an ABN number, was part of the reasoning.
I let it go for a while, but then reapplied when some parts were really needed.
Anyway back in, even with my old account number.
Guess someone needed to rattle their cage.
JJ

I have never had a problem with WES ordering on line.
I did sign up using my business name, although I do not remember ever entering my Australian Business Number.

Before WES, "my go to" place was GB Telespares in Queensbery St Nth Melbourne. They had everything! And if they did not have it, they would get it.

Wayne.
