The J6-19 Townsman is an early transistorised radio by HMV, in the same case as the valve Super-5 model. It makes noise, but there's a lot of whistles and other nasties, especially toward the top end of the band. I was unable to get a schematic anywhere - can anyone help?

Kevin Chant has what is claimed to be "J6" pdf, but it won't display in any of my pdf readers. There's some other site that sells them via Paypal - sorry other site, I don't use Paypal. And of course radiomuseum, which wants lots of personal info - no, you're not getting it.

So, can anyone help? Otherwise this radio goes in the bin.

IIRC, Radiomuseum used to allow one free download a day to guests (or similar).

I don't know what's going on with those PDFs on the Chant site. Suggest using Kevin's email link on his home page and ask him to look into that. I have found him responsive to contacts.

I've never had luck with radiomuseum. Clicking on anything requires you provide full details, and that isn't going to happen.

I successfully downloaded J6.pdf from Kevin Chant's site using the "right click" and "download as" option. Trying to open it in Firefox returned a "use Acrobat reader" message

There is something odd going on with the site.

I looked under HMV for J6-19, plenty of number chassis listed
A few letter chassis K L A C , but no J series.

Did a couple of downloads, they worked ok , left click on icon, document downloads as normal , so that process is working ok. Just no J series chassis.

Fred.

I had no trouble downloading from Kevin Chant site, but once on my computer I was unable to open any files. It just showed a big Adobe sign and wanted me to visit the Adobe site, and said Flash was no longer supported. So I tried on a XP computer and the message now said I needed to install Adobe 10, when 11 is already installed.

So, from what I can see, the documents on the Chant site are corrupted and unusable.

It also took me all day to get here after the site was down all day and still being plagued by error 500 every step of the way after that.

As above, contact Kev and, if my experience is any guide, he will sort out the problem and/or email you the file.

I had no trouble downloading it from Kevin's site, using Firefox on Windows 10,

Just right-clicked "Download File" and chose "Save Link As". Saved it in a suitable folder.

Opened in Acrobat Reader DC 32 bit "Continuous release version I".

A very clean scan.

I could email it to you, re-saved in the Open Office PDF converter if all else fails.
Taking a screen grab from the pdf, cutting it out in Paintshop Pro, pasting it into Open Office Writer and saving it as a PDF gives a 153k file, much smaller than the original 2.3MB pdf and still perfectly legible.

I use the OO writer's PDF function frequently in my work and I've never had a single report of an unreadable pdf generated by it.

Just tried again, this time with right-click, save as, but same problem - still entirely unusable.

If you could email me with something that works, it would help greatly.

Just had another look at Kevins' site.

The site works as usual, BUT, I note when selecting and displaying the Australian radio HMV contents, the icons show scattered about towards the bottom of the list where the letter chassis are.
That looks like a corrupted list or file.
I do not see any series J or 19 PDF's.

Fred.

Your email address is hidden, so I am unable to email you the schematic

This link will eventually be hyperlinked.

https://www.kevinchant.com/uploads/7/1/0/8/7108231/j6.pdf

In the meantime, highlight then copy and paste into the address field in another window.

Thanks, email received. Would you believe it wouldn't work either?

But then, I tried opening the it on a windows 10 computer (I normally use windows 7), and suddenly there it is!

What is going on in the world where windows 10 is required to open a PDF?

EDIT: JFB also provided a docx, and this works on Office 2010, and will be more convenient at Hilltop, as I don't use win10 for anything there.
