I saw on the news today that the online version of 2CH would be closing down at 6pm tomorrow night.

There's nothing on the website though, so we'll have to wait and see.

Tim Webster, the morning booth announcer said goodbye this morning.
Staff, what was left, have been jumping ship already.
Possibly an interview with Bob Rogers tomorrow, that would be the last time you will have a chance to hear BR on live air, if it happens

The announcers have been loyal but the writing has been on the wall since the "show" moved from the station complex to an office in a building somewhere driven by a laptop .
Broadcast standards have been abysmal with dead air spasms for hours on end, streaming issues with lost data, weird artifacts in the audio etc.

Good music but pseudo religious sports programs were just embarrasing.
Sad.
Hullo 2UE for AM receivers and music.

Fred.

I'm surprised that it lasted this long.

According to Tim Webster, the "station" will go off air at 18.00 Friday 10/06/20.
Half the listeners will probably thinks its just another drop out in transmission!

There is a promo running that suggests tuning to 2UE 954 if you want to listen to music.
That was the whole point of the station!
Transmitting a half assed music program was obviously not a commercial success.

SEN is just sports outlet and that is already covered by any number of AM/FM/DAB stations.
Sounds like the slow death of AM/FM broadcasting to me.

Fred.

The website has been updated in line with our information.

I'm letting it play on this computer until the end, in just over 2 hours.

Interesting to hear all of the goodbyes and thank yous and yet the pre-recorded promos are still talking about downloading the 2CH app and also promoting a Saturday night program.

The announcer lady and a man talked, then they played Abba's Thanks for all the Music. Then there was a short silence before being switched to SEN's sports stuff. At that point I closed the page.

I've only listened to 2CH over the past year on DAB+, so I had no idea it had disappeard from the AM dial. I listen on the train and DAB+ is a lot more stable than AM. I heard about 2CH ceasing in the 4:30pm news bulletin on 2GB (their former sister station that was 'just down the corridor').

I listened to 2CH from about 5:40pm, but most of the sound was cutting in and out and the signal dropped out frequently. Did anyone else listen in on the DAB signal; was this interference from the train or was this a problem with the signal?

It was 100% fine online on firefox - I don't normally use DAB.

Well what a debacle.
The last day of a proud radio station.
Nearly 100 years of broadcasting......................
Did we have a day of past characters regaling us with stories of the glory days of radio, history of the station etc etc?

No.
Tim Webster tried to "interview" Bob Rogers by phone.
Poor Bob did an imitation of Old Mr Grace in "Are you Being served"...."you have all done very well".
And sounded like a startled old man that had just been woken up from a morning nap.
After a couple of incoherent words where Bob clearly had no idea who Tim (or even himself) was, interview over.
Back to music.

Then suddenly the music turned strange, streaming breaks from buffering and weird tempo increases as bunching tried to catch up.
In other words SAME OLD S!.T but worse.
I had 2CH DAB narrow cast by my local AM transmitter to all the AM radios on the property.
I listened to this crap coming from the speakers up to lunchtime.
Barbara looked at me rolled the eyes and said "can you turn that!.#$ OFF!"

I shut the DAB convertor rack down, shut the AM narrowcast transmitter off and reset all AM receivers to "Easy Music 954 2UE".
Steady music, news a bit of chat and weather was restored.

We never did hear the final sign off but from the sound of it that was no great loss.

SEN, hang your heads in shame and advertisers,........... think again!

Fred.

SEN can shove it.

When SEN purchased the 1170 AM frequency in 2020, it was an honour to continue the 2CH legacy for an additional 18 months with the station moving to a digital only platform on DAB+ and the SEN app. However, as demonstrated by SEN’s recent purchase of 4KQ in Brisbane, which will soon become 693 SENQ from July 1, Sport Entertainment Network’s core business and focus is sport.

Does anyone listen to SEN? I don't know anyone that does. Many have never heard of it.

SEN would like to thank and acknowledge the passionate 2CH audience for listening, to everyone at SEN who has contributed to the station over the last 18 months, and to all former hosts and team on and off the air who were part of 2CH’s 90 year journey. SEN would also like to recognise Tim Webster for his dedication and commitment to the station.

According to the 2CH website they have purchased 4KQ in Brisbane, so their trail of destruction seems set to continue. The crap on the website just poisons the SEN brand and sadly, many companies seem fine with these self-inflicted wounds. It it pointless claiming to value tradition and a cult following (which certainly did exist with 2CH) if the station owners are not prepared to let it continue.

In radio broadcasting's 99th year in Australia, this is a disgrace. This comes from a once proud regular 2CH listener.

A valve a day keeps the transistor away...
