Hi Arty41,
I can help out with a rewind, but I'm down in Victoria if that's a problem for you.

.DangerousDave: do you do rewinds full time, or only when it suits?

I run and own a motor rewind shop so my trade is an Armature Winder. In saying that most transformers I rewind are for my own use with some for other people with vintage requirements. Commercially rewinding transformers isn't viable, but as part of my hobby I don't mind doing them. Having a shop with the equipment and materials allows me to do them without hassle.

There was a local transformer rewinder here - I only spoke to him by phone way back. He was a bit of a cranky curmudgeon who said " [highly revered] Western-Electric transformers are garbage! " (he must have had multiple requests to rewind high priced W.E. audio transformers) Do you think he was right? Ever taken apart one of those highly collectable potted W.E. audio transformers?

By chance I came across this information by Harry Lythall - SM0VPO, on how to rewind transformers and calculator/data to make audio coupling transformers. It may be of help.

Harry is very good!
Both articles well worth reading with lots of practical info.
One point he makes is some cheap trannys have bare uninsulated laminations?
I have not struck this possibly because all the trannys I pull apart are old school or proven items and clearly have some sort of insulation on the lam surface. When I restack I feel for the "burr" on the edge of the lam and put them back all the same way.
Fred.
